Idaho GOP joins Texas and Montana in being crazy:

The convention’s platform calls for a radical overhaul of the federal government. One proposal is a Tea Party favorite, calling for the repeal the 17th Amendment, which provides for the direct election of Senators instead of the original system of them being selected by state legislatures. The platform also calls for the state legislature and governor to “nullify any and all existing and future unconstitutional Federal mandates and laws, funded or unfunded, that infringe on Idaho’s Tenth Amendment sovereignty.” In addition, the GOP calls for the state of Idaho to take back federally controlled lands.

Then there is the hard-money plank, which might have come right out of a Goldline ad on talk radio: “We believe Idahoans need to protect their savings from the ravages of inflation, which is hidden taxation, and encourage citizens to participate in a systematic acquisition of precious metals which represent real value as opposed to paper currencies.”

One resolution went even further: “Let free Idahoans pay taxes, and other fees due to the State, County and City in silver and or gold in any form. Payments to City, County, or State employees requested to be paid in silver and or gold, Will be complied with.”

Which will be the next state GOP to try to out-crazy the rest? Utah, I’m looking at you!

Republicans hate Thurgood Marshall, don’t know why (gee, I wonder why…)

Instead of raising taxes on the rich, Republican Senate Minority Leader John Boehner has called for raising the retirement age to 70. Suck it, old people, rich people gotta be richer!

Ensuring there’s enough money to pay for the war will require reforming the country’s entitlement system, Boehner said. He said he’d favor increasing the Social Security retirement age to 70 for people who have at least 20 years until retirement, tying cost-of-living increases to the consumer price index rather than wage inflation and limiting payments to those who need them.

I am sure all the teabaggers screaming about States’ Rights and 10th Amendment will be outraged that the SCOTUS overthrew the Chicago gun ban. Oh, wait, no they won’t!

The National Tea Party Unity convention coming up in two weeks has been moved to October. To quote Steve Benen:

A National Tea Party Unity convention that was scheduled to be held in Las Vegas in July will now take place in October, according to organizers.

The event, organized by Tea Party Nation (a national Tea Party organization) and Free America (a conservative non-profit group) and other organizations, will still be held at the Palazzo Las Vegas Resort. But Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips confirmed to CNN Saturday that the date is being moved from July 15-17 to October in order to hold the event closer to the midterm elections.

“We concluded it would more advantageous to hold the convention in the middle of October just prior to the November elections,” says Phillips in a statement.

At first blush, that spin may seem plausible. Maybe the far-right effort will be better off if activists leave their local communities a few weeks before the election, and head to a Las Vegas resort. I wouldn’t think so, but organizers didn’t ask me.

The more interesting angle to this, though, is what the report didn’t mention — the “National Tea Party Unity” convention is being postponed just two weeks before it was scheduled to kick off. I’m not an expert in conference management, but it seems to me that a national group doesn’t organize a major gathering at a Las Vegas resort, lining up speakers and guests, and then scrap the whole thing two weeks before it begins unless no one was planning to show up.

A shame we have to wait to get more insane videos.

Jungerman said he put up the sign to protest people who pay no taxes, but, “Always have their hand out for whatever the government will give them” in social programs.

Parasites were unavailable for comment…no, wait, Jungerman did comment!

Trying to defend himself, Jungerman told the press, “That’s just my money coming back to me. I pay a lot in taxes. I’m not a parasite.”

General Stanley McChrystal said some naughty stuff in a Rolling Stone profile where he basically insulted most of the Obama Administraton and some other people, which is something you aren’t allowed to do as an active military person, as it disparages the chain of command. McChrystal has submitted his resignation, so it remains to be seen if Obama will accept it. The best part about this is that Rolling Stone had not idea what they had there and most of the publicity for the issue was about Lady Gaga and her machine gun bra. Now, I love Lady Gaga and machine gun bras as much as the next guy, but no one noticed what McChrystal said?

Glenn Beck thinks George Soros will kill him. Someone make sure Soros doesn’t have any machine gun bras!

American Crossroads, the fundraising group that was supposed to break the bank and have the GOP win the 2010 midterm elections is rolling in the cash. All $200 of it! At $200 a month they should reach their $52 million goal by the year 23676.

The Texas Republican Party has released their new 25-page manifesto where they have gone more crazy than usual. It’s time to mess with Texas.

We recommend a national sales tax (which does not include a Value Added Tax) to replace all other Federal taxes once the I.R.S. is abolished and the Sixteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is repealed. However, until such time that the income tax is abolished, we support deductions for private and home schooling, home mortgages, and sales taxes.

We believe the Minimum Wage Law should be repealed.

We urge the Texas legislature in its next biennial session to enact legislation requiring a sonogram be performed and offered as part of the consent process to each mother seeking an elective abortion.

We oppose the legalization of sodomy.

We oppose the implementation of one world currency.

Teabaggers are trying to take down Chris Matthews in an effort similar to what was done to Glenn Beck’s sponsors. FreedomWorks chief Dick Armey is also telling candidates not to go on MSNBC, but that’s less of a spiteful attack on Matthews and more of a fear that their nutball candidates will actually say things they believe and scare off voters.

“Buy solar. Get a gun.”

The Red Cross has been fined $21 million since 2003 over crappy blood screening, including the latest $16 million fine. Oh, and they also sell blood, which you probably didn’t know.

Will the Department of Education crack down on for-profit colleges? Probably not, or at least not much.

Congressional candidate and teabagger hopeful Bill Randall (in NC-13’s primary race) has decided that the Federal Government and BP conspired to create the oil spill.

Maybe that’s why actual Congressman Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) apologized to BP’s CEO during hearings today. I am sure it is entirely a coincidence that Barton gets lots of campaign contributions from BP and other oil companies…
He has since apologized for his apology after getting blasted from both the right and left. That’s a lot of apologizing.

There is legitimate criticism of Obama’s recent speech, and then there is this garbage
